GOBIK Short Unisex Gloves Hawk
The unisex Hawk short gloves are GOBIK‘s proposal for an essential garment in road cycling. With a large padded area, stretch fabric, maximum breathability and good cushioning, they offer great performance for the regular cyclist. Available in a single dark color called Darkness, in this article we put them to the test and count our impressions.
The cyclist’s mittens
This word of French origin is used in cycling slang to refer to short fingerless gloves, so common in road cycling. And it is not very recent, since it is known that they were used in ancient times by the Persians. Its main function is to provide a precision touch to the fingers, sheltering or protecting the rest of the hand.
The use of gloves on the bike is something very personal, but in general, the advantages of using them are many:
- Its padding can free us from cramps and discomfort on long-distance routes.
- They increase safety, as the hands are a key point of contact with the brakes and steering, and any grip in this regard is welcome.
- In the event of a fall, they can save us from a good scratch on the palm of the hand, an injury that can take us off the bike for a while.
First contact
We put on the GOBIK Hawk gloves and immediately notice that we are facing a high quality product. Various types of fabric help to provide the best performance for every area of the hand. The upper part is made of a highly breathable lycra, very comfortable and adaptable to our hand:
The lower area has several padded parts, strategically arranged, and a suede fabric with great grip and touch. A good detail is a small flap to be able to remove the gloves:
For a short gloves, the cuffs are long enough to connect with a long sleeve mid-season jersey like the Pacer:
On Route
We have tested the Hawk gloves on short routes and also on long routes, with 6 hours of duration. We really liked its padding and general feel. Gripping the handlebars is more comfortable and we have the part of the fingers free, to feel the brake and gear levers perfectly.
They are very appreciated on long routes, helping to rest the hands and avoid the appearance of cramps. The thumb area is preformed and fits perfectly in the upper part of the levers, one of the most common grip positions. As for its perspiration, it is perfect, keeping your hands dry and comfortable.
Our opinion
Short gloves or mittens are an essential piece of cycling equipment. As we have seen, its use has many advantages over wearing «bare» hands.
We loved the GOBIK Hawk gloves, increasing our comfort and dexterity on the bike.
There are 6 sizes available, to adapt to all types of hand measurements. On the manufacturer’s website they recommend you measure the perimeter of your hand and in this way you will know what size corresponds to you. In our case it worked perfectly.
Good route!
