GOBIK Limber, baselayer
In this article: review and opinion of the GOBIK Limber undershirt.
New at GOBIK for the 2021-2022 winter season (Cold Series 2122), the Limber base layer is a first layer designed to wick sweat away from the cyclist’s body and prevent loss of temperature. Its range of use is from 10 to 20 ºC and it has a seamless construction developed in polypropylene microfiber. It comes in two versions (short sleeved and sleeveless), in two colors (white and grey) and there is a male and female model. Let’s see in detail what the guys from Yecla have to offer us with this more than interesting garment.
The most important layer
We will not tire of repeating the importance of dressing in layers in order to adapt to different weather conditions. Autumn, winter and spring are changing seasons, where we can face large temperature variations.
The first or base layer is the closest to the skin and should act as a «second skin» providing warmth, but at the same time, transporting sweat and moisture to upper layers to make us feel dry and comfortable. It is important to have a fabric capable of doing this in cycling clothing, since it is a sport where more sweat is produced than usual. If we leave moisture on the skin, we will start to get cold and we can also suffer from chafing.
In the GOBIK catalog we had the great Merino baselayer, which we already analyzed in its day, but it is true that a finer garment was missed, for milder temperatures or to even be able to complement that one if we needed it. Limber comes to cover this gap, also in a very complete way, thanks to its two versions: short sleeves and sleeveless.
Before learning how it works, let’s move on to our usual detailed tour of the garment.
Limber up close
The fabric with which Limber is made is polypropylene microfiber, a resistant, light and very breathable fiber, which makes it ideal to act as a second skin. It is also a very stable fabric, which does not shrink or expand, which lengthens its duration and will serve us for many seasons. Its great softness is also remarkable, which we immediately appreciate to the touch.
Following the neck area, we can see how carefully it is made, with a seamless design to avoid any friction with our skin and that also lightens the weight of the garment:
The back area shows off the Skin Lab label, which identifies the brand’s baselayer products:
The integration of the usual brand motto Nonconformist in the fabric is very spectacular:
And something that the brand has accustomed us to, but that is not why we are going to omit it, the details and embroidery of its undergarments, which give them a unique personality:
On Route
We have been testing Limber on routes with cool and mild temperatures, in combination with Merino baselayer and Envy or Armour, in a classic 3-layer strategy, and on spring days with Mist, Pacer or CX PRO.
The first thing we highlight is the great adaptation to our body and its extreme softness, which also does not change with washing. It is a very comfortable garment to wear and makes you feel protected. Its seamless construction prevents us from having any type of friction and we will not have problems even if the duration of the route is very long.
Its perspiration capacity is very high, transferring our sweat to upper layers, making us feel dry and comfortable. The combination with other layers from the manufacturer that also contribute greatly to breathability such as Merino or Polartec fabrics from Envy or Armour, achieve a fantastic integration, forgetting the classic winter sensation of feeling wet inside.
When temperatures improve, the same effect is achieved but with quick-drying jerseys like Pacer or CX PRO, helping to extend your temperature range. The sleeveless version will allow us to enjoy it until almost summer, becoming a basic item of our daily cycling clothing.
Limber deserves a warm welcome from fans of the brand. It has come to stay, since it is part of the manufacturer’s timeless concept, products that have no specific season, that are timeless and have an extended life cycle of 3 years. We are sure that it will be part of the wardrobe of many cyclists and there are plenty of reasons for it.
As for the size, I use the same as usual. For my measurements of 190 cm tall, 105 cm chest and 77 kg, I wear size L/XL.
