Cambiar a
GOBIK Pacer long sleeve
The GOBIK Pacer Long Sleeve Jersey is a novelty for the 2020-2021 season. It is an ideal garment for the spring and autumn seasons, when rain appears intermittently. If we combine it with inner layers such as second skin or merino and outer layers such as vests, we can use it in demanding training and competitions with somewhat lower temperatures.
Pacer is available in 3 different versions or colors, all unisex. In our analysis we tested the Turkana version, with very autumnal ocher and military green tones. There is also the Bering version in elegant navy blue and Arizona, with an attractive color combination.
Update: for the 2021-2022 season Pacer releases new colors. You can see them in this post.
A waterproof jersey
In the post lead we already mentioned that the GOBIK Pacer is an ideal garment for light rain. Responsible for this is the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment, which prevents the saturation of water on the surface of the fabric, causing raindrops to slide and disperse quickly. This behavior is really important in a waterproof jersey or jacket, since a saturated surface will create a thermal sensation of cold, even if the water does not really penetrate inside:
In addition, following the ethics that the brand boasts, this treatment has been certified by BLUEDESIGN, guaranteeing a fabric completely free of chemical components, sustainable thanks to technology based on plant material and manufactured with the least impact and a responsible use of the means.
With extra ventilation
The appropriate thermal range of the Pacer is 9-17 °C (48-62 ºF), we would say that it is the GOBIK long jersey for milder temperatures if the CX PRO did not exist. As you will see in the comparison table, it is only 1 degree above the Cobble, but our feeling when wearing it is that the distance is greater. The Cobble jersey feels warmer, its brushed polyester layer is thicker. Therefore, Pacer, even when combined with inner layers such as merino, will not be suitable for low temperatures.
Do not miss: comparison of the GOBIK winter garments, you can see all the models ordered by temperature of use, protection against wind and rain.
It is an ideal garment for spring and autumn, and since in these seasons the thermal variation is marked, with cool sunrises and warm central hours, the manufacturer has very successfully included a mesh fabric panel in the area of the armpits, for good ventilation when temperatures rise:
The taste for details
GOBIK usually takes special care when designing their garments. With Pacer it was not going to be less. If we analyze it carefully, we will find a multitude of details that raise its performance to a very high level.
Starting at the top, the neck area is made of a very soft fabric, with an ergonomic pattern that adapts very well to our body when we pedal on the bike:
The usual zipper is practically hidden, has a retention system that secures its place and can be easily gripped with gloves. We note that in this model we do not have the interior insert that runs through the zipper from top to bottom and protects from the entry of air:
The cuffs of this season have 5-6 cm of a laser cut fabric with a very great elasticity, which adapts to the wrist and prevents the entry of air. It is very comfortable and with a perfect fit:
The great patented GRS (Gobik Retention System) back pocket system is capable of carrying a lot of belongings, without deforming the fit of the garment and preventing them from falling off. We have not tried anything like it, it is inimitable:
We have a fourth mesh pocket, on the right side, which can be used to store energy bars or their wrappers:
The lower area is well fitted to the body thanks to the elasticity of the silicone tape:
Visibility is ensured by the color details that surround the garment and the reflective belt loops in the upper and lower area at the back, good points for cyclist safety:
On Route
We have tested Pacer on outings with temperatures above 10 ºC (50 ºF), reaching almost 20 ºC (68 ºF) in the middle of the day. For the interior we have used a first layer of merino wool, and in the descents, a vest. Our feeling is that it feels almost like a second skin, with a noticeably less thickness than the Cobble, so it is not appropriate for low temperatures and yes for intermediate seasons such as autumn or spring.
His perspiration is spectacular. You can now demand what you want, you will feel dry and comfortable with it. The underarm area feels especially ventilated, the mesh inserts work perfectly.
And its protection against the rain? Well, look at this photo:
The DWR treatment performs its function perfectly by preventing the entry of water. It slides as if the fabric were glass.
Our opinion
Again another irreplaceable garment from GOBIK. Located one thermal notch below Cobble, this jersey is perfect for when the cold weather is off but it’s not summer. If you complement it with inner layers and an outer vest, you will expand its use range and improve your adaptability to different temperatures.
We loved the protection from the rain. It looks like magic and makes you feel very safe if the weather forecast calls for intermittent showers.
The sizing is tight, aerodynamic and feels like a glove. As always I give you my size, which is L, for measurements of 1.90 m (74″) in height and 77 kg (169 lbs) in weight.
Good route!
